LPC Launches #LoveNYCLandmarks Initiative to Celebrate New York City
Dear fellow New Yorkers,
These are extraordinary times and I am impressed with how quickly the City has responded and adapted. I am proud to say that the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has also adapted quickly and our staff began working remotely on March 16, 2020. We implemented an e-filing process for applications and issued 239 permits electronically the first week! While we know life goes on during this pause, and many people have their hands full adapting to working from home, we also know that everyone needs a diversion and we want to be there for you.
New York City is the greatest city for many reasons, including its strength, resiliency and creativity. Evidence of these traits can be found in all of our NYC Landmarks. LPC is launching an initiative to celebrate New York City, providing engaging online content about the historic buildings and neighborhoods that make New York a vibrant, beautiful and resilient city. Through our #LoveNYCLandmarks initiative LPC will share articles, photos, story maps, neighborhood tours, and games and activities for kids and adults in an effort to engage New Yorkers in a joyful discourse about the City’s history and culture, foster civic pride and strengthen our connections to the places we love.
Though our circumstances have changed, we remain committed to protecting and preserving New York City’s architecturally, historically, and culturally significant buildings and sites, promoting these places so we may learn and be inspired by the past, while collectively working through these difficult times today.
We wish you and your families the best during these difficult times and hope that our #LoveNYCLandmarks initiative inspires you.
Stay safe, stay home and be well.
Sarah Carroll
Chair
